ZL4KF Amateur Radio Station - New Zealand

zl4kf station

Presently the station equipment consists of an elderly Yaesu FT901DM along with the YO901 'Scope, Heathkit SB220 and other accessories, all rather old but still working.. The mic is about the newest thing (14 years old!) - a Heil HM-109. Up-grade time is fast approaching though, with an FT2000 having a certain appeal :)

For antennas I have a home-brew 3 element 20 meter Yagi  on a tower which can be raised to 90 feet but more normally sits at about 75 feet. Although it's not a large, long-boom antenna it works very well and is about as large an antenna as I can reliably use here on the hill-top where it is often very windy. Computer designed about 15 years ago it has a good F/B ratio, good gain and is tuned for 14.2 MHz.

For 80 meters I have a full size ¼λ vertical on the roof of a large corrugated iron workshop roof. There are 20 or so  elevated radials attached and it all works quite well for DX. On 40 there is a ¼λ vertical on another steel roof and there is also a backup 20 meter vertical, again on a metal roof.
